How long have you been creating websites?
I've been into webdesign since I was around fifteen (nearly ten years ago!), in 1999. My first website was a Beatles site (the name escapes me) on a freeserver. Soon after that, I created a Monkees fansite, then a personal site. I went through a whole series of various websites, domains, and themes, before getting to this point.
When was Cry For A Shadow first created?
I believe the first version was on a freeserver in 2000, but I'm not positive. The first one I remember was on my first domain back in 2001. I've had other Beatles sites with different names, but I've always come back to this one.
Why do you have this site?
There are a variety of reasons, most of which I won't go into. It really boils down to the fact that I'm a huge Beatles fan with a massive amount of resources and some webdesign skills. It bugged me that so few quality fansites existed, and I felt duty-bound to do something about it, rather than continue complaining. So I brought back the site (and continue to complain!).
Where do you get your content ideas?
I get them everywhere! Photos, books, news, other sites (not to say other Beatles sites, just random websites inspire me)...I'm constantly coming up with new ideas. Every day, something new pops into my head. It's just a question of finding the time to get all those ideas onto the site.
Why are you so vocal about your hatred of other Beatles fans?
I really want to clear this up, because I've gotten some comments about this from visitors. I do not hate other Beatles fans. Not at all! I adore the Beatles community, and all the different kinds of fans out there. I've been a huge Beatles fan since I was ten years old. I've gone through the "John is so hot I want to marry him and carry his babies" phase, I've been through the "John's lyrics are so deep, I truly understand them and we'd be BFFs if he knew me" phase -- I've been through all of that. I understand where people are coming from with this, and I honestly don't begrudge them that. The people I'm attacking in sections like "STFU!" and "Get Some Help" are the people who have this sense of entitlement and superiority, who have this idea that unless you think like them, you're not a "true" fan. That's what annoys me, and that's where my issue lies. If someone decent were to email me and act fangirly about The Beatles, I wouldn't be rude to them, and I certainly wouldn't judge them.
You're kind of...mean...about The Beatles on the site. Why is that, if you're such a fan?
I don't understand this concept of "true" fans not being allowed to make fun of The Beatles. I've been a fan for a long time, I basically grew up with them. I've been through all the stages of fandom. I'm still as big a fan as I used to be in my teen years, but my fandom has changed. So has my attitude, perspective, experience, and sense of humor. I don't dislike any of them, but I do see the ridiculousness and stupidity behind some of the stuff surrounding them, or their actions or words. I enjoy having a bit of fun at their expense. I'm pretty sure after decades in the business, any of them could handle my stupid bullshit. I'm sorry if it hurts their fans, but we just have a different sense of humor. The vast majority of people who visit this site regularly think it's hilarious and wonderful; I'm not going to change my opinions, my beliefs, or the tone of this site to appease one or two people who don't "get it."
Where do you get your photos?
Every photo used on this site was scanned out of books and magazines from my own collection. There's no point in trying to accuse me of photo theft, because I could cite my reference down to page number if need be.
